Steve Hutton has made a career out of helping men discover their best game. He spent nearly 20 years as a PGA Professional, the majority of the time as Head PGA Professional at facilities in Mississippi and Louisiana. He eventually settled in at the 27-hole Golden Bear Design facility in Jackson, MS. He has officiated for the Ben Hogan and Nike TOUR…now known as the Nationwide TOUR. Steve spent 7 years with Mississippi’s PGA TOUR event, the former Southern Farm Bureau Classic (now the Viking Classic) – ultimately serving as Tournament Director. During his tenure he recruited many notable players such as Hal Sutton, Bernard Langer, Paul Azinger, John Daly, Lee Jantzen, Tom Kite, John Cook, David Duval, Luke Donald, Fred Funk, and many others. Under his leadership the purse for this prestigious event increased from $700,000 to over $3 million.
In 2004 Steve transferred his organizational skills from the golf course to a different field of events when he accepted the position of Regional Field Director for Promise Keepers. He became the National Field Director in 2005 and was promoted to Vice President of Field Ministries in 2006. In January of 2007 Steve took a huge step of faith in launching MOMENTUM Events, an organization that helps local churches conduct catalytic events for men, youth, and couples. MOMENTUM’s single greatest goal is to see individuals who are impacted by a dynamic weekend event actually take the ‘right next step’ Monday morning by sustaining that momentum through small group follow-up. The ministry emphasizes training church leaders how to use an event, and then providing quality follow-up material after the event.
Hutton attributes much of his passion to his first experience at a dynamic Christian men’s event. “Although I was saved at age 12, I never really experienced true worship until I attended a Promise Keepers event in 1995. For the first time I realized a variety of things…mainly that what counted in life was ‘who I was in Christ’, not ‘what I did for a living.’ Over the years I learned many great skills, especially in the field of Event Management. In 2002 I began to sense a desire to use these skills to help others discover the freedom that I was experiencing through a deeper walk with Christ. That desire led to my involvement with Promise Keepers, and eventually the founding of MOMENTUM.”
